UNIT ONE: Striking & Fielding Games

Hi everybody & welcome back to another very exciting week on the blog! Starting this week, I am going to devote each weekly blog post to one game type for our plan. Here, I will define the game type and provide modified activity examples for PE Educators to use in their own classrooms. These modifications will cover a range of abilities with the hope of addressing most of the students you will come across in your classrooms. So without further ado, this week's focus is *drum roll* STRIKING & FIELDING GAMES! First and foremost, let's talk about what a striking and fielding game is. In this game type, players on the "batting" team strike (or hit) an object into the "field". From here, the batting team's goal is to run between two points before the other team (the "fielding" team) returns the object to a set point (e.g., homeplate in baseball). The batting and fielding teams rotate roles throughout the game. The rotation is usually determined by a set number of hits, or a certain number of retired players (e.g., 3 outs in baseball). In S&F games, strategies include hitting to open space, reducing space while playing defence, scoring points, and getting players 'out'. For our Fitness plan, we are going to focus on 5 different games: baseball, chuck the chicken, rigby, danish longball, and soccer baseball (or kickball). I tried to use games that we are already familiar with along with some new ones to not only widen our own knowledge, but introduce our students to new ideas, too. Since last week, I've updated the chart we will be referencing for the program. I've created one cohesive "modifications" column instead of both accommodations and modifications since most of the changes we makes in Phys Ed would fall under modifications. You'll noticed that this week's modifications are pretty similar between games. Since S&F games have fairly common goals and task requirements, the changes we make to them are similar, too. Come follow along with my progress in REAL TIME! I've embedded the Google Doc that I will be regularly updating in this post. This will be the focus of my work for the next 5 weeks. Once each game type has been filled, a more ~aeshetic~ and complete resource will be created. Well folks, that's it and that's all for now!
